The Dew Tour is back in Breckenridge! For the first time in history, the event is an Olympic qualifier, so the best of the best will need to pull out all the stops and give it their all in order to make it on to the U.S. Winter Olympic team.  This will be the first event of five stops in the Olympic trials process. The others are during the U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colo., Northstar, Calif., Park City, Utah and Mammoth Mountain, Calif.

The party won’t just take place in the park at Breckenridge Ski Resort. From the Dew Tour Showcase: Recognize Film Festival, at the Riverwalk Center where the most epic films in the industry will be featured, playing tribute to the many talented athletes and filmmakers out there, to the Streetstyle event downtown on Friday night as well as the Fitz and The Tantrums concert on Saturday night, Breckenridge sure knows how to play host!

To purchase ancillary event tickets, visit the Riverwalk Center’s website.

Several of the competing athletes call Breckenridge home, so go out and cheer them on! Good luck to Bobby Brown, Anna Segal, Keri Herman, JJ Thomas and Eric Willett! Make sure to take a peak at the rest of the Breck Epic Pro Team. Big name riders and skiers like Shaun White, Kelly Clark, Torah Bright, Louie Vito will be sure to grab some attention, but it’s anyone’s game!

October 10, 2013- Breckenridge, CO Longtime local resort developer, Breckenridge Grand Vacations (BGV), has recently pledged to donate $500,000 for the rehabilitation of the historic schoolhouse building on Harris Street into a community center and library. The building, commonly referred to as the “old CMC building” will be called “The Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center.” The expected grand opening is slated for October of 2014.

“We felt compelled to be a part of this project because it is our responsibility to give back to the community that has been so great to us,” said Mike Dudick, Owner and Developer of Breckenridge Grand Vacations. “The Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center will fulfill the expressed need for a central gathering place for visitors and locals alike.”

Following the renovation, the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center will host the greatly expanded South Branch Library, which will encompass separate areas for adults, teens and children, a state-of-the-art computer center and space for enhanced library programs. Free internet and computer access will be available for all residents and visitors.

The building will also be home to The Speakeasy Movie Theatre, a defining cultural highlight in Breckenridge for nearly 20 years. The overhaul will reconfigure the 160-seat theater to feature first run films, film festivals and also to serve as a presentation venue.

Multiple non-profits will soon call the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center home, including Breckenridge-based organization, The Summit Foundation. BGV works closely with The Summit Foundation, which distributes grants and provides assistance to more than 90 smaller non-profits in the area. The building will also contain offices for the Breckenridge Festival of Film, as well as the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance.

There will also be rooms allocated for mixed-use and conference space.

“We are pleased to partner with Breckenridge Grand Vacations on this exciting restoration project, transforming a part of our heritage into a spectacular community gathering space,” said Leah Arnold of the project’s Capital Campaign Committee. “This gift shows pride in our town and its future, and we hope many will follow Breckenridge Grand Vacations’ lead.”

The renovation project is expected to cost about $8 million and is currently the largest historical restoration project in the state. The Capital Campaign Committee seeks to raise $2 million, with the remainder of the funds being split by the Town of Breckenridge and Summit County Government. The Capital Campaign is now well past 70% of its goal continues to seek donations from businesses and individuals.

Donations of any size are welcome and opportunities for naming rights are available in amounts ranging from $250 for a seat in the upgraded movie theater to $50,000 for a room in the new library. For a minimum donation of $100, people can join the Founders’ Circle and will receive a Founder’s Kit which includes discounts on movie concessions and historical tours, as well as commemorative tote and special edition library card. Founders’ Circle memberships will be limited to the first 300 people. Breckenridge Festival of Film- September 19-22

Inspire, Educate and Entertain. The mission of the Breckenridge Film Festival is to enrich lives through the ideas and emotions inspired by the art of film making.

Fall Aspens in Breckenridge

Back for its 33rd year, the Breckenridge Film Festival is packing quite the punch this year. With more than 50 films screening at seven different venues throughout Breckenridge, attendees will not be disappointed with the assortment of independent films.

For several years, this film festival kicked off summer activities. We’re glad that they chose to host the festival in the fall this year. We welcome filmmakers and observers from near and far to our charming mountain town. There are plenty of activities to enjoy during the day, so go out and soak in those beautiful golden aspens on a mid-day hike or take in the sights on a scenic drive up Baldy Mountain. Plenty of visitors like to just take in the views from a bench facing the ski resort in the Blue River Plaza, just across the lawn from the Riverwalk Center.

We hope you are moved, inspired and energized by the films selected for the 2013 Breckenridge Festival of Films! Enjoy!
